Will GTA 6 run at 30 or 60 fps? Performance on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S

Will GTA 6 run at 30 or 60 fps? Performance on PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S

It is the question under every GTA 6 video: will the game run at 60 frames per second? For now, the official answer is no. In late August 2026, Rob Nelson, co-director of the game at Rockstar North, told YouTuber Davy Jones that GTA 6 runs at 30 fps on consoles, and that he would need to check with the technical team before saying whether a 60 fps option would come at launch or later. Here is what that means for each console.

Where each console stands

PlatformFrame rateStatus
PS530 fpsโœ… Current target according to Rockstar
PS5 Pro30 fps so far๐ŸŸก "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label, improvements not detailed
Xbox Series X30 fpsโœ… Current target according to Rockstar
Xbox Series SNot detailed๐Ÿ”ด No official information
PCNo version announced๐Ÿ”ด No date

What Rockstar said

โœ… Confirmed: Rob Nelson hosted Davy Jones at Rockstar's Edinburgh offices. He said the game runs at 30 frames per second on consoles, and that a 60 fps option would need the technical team's input, whether for launch or a later update.

That is the only statement from someone running the project. It leaves the door open to a performance mode without promising one. Be wary of articles announcing guaranteed 60 fps on PS5 Pro: they rely on rumors, not on Rockstar.

Why 30 fps on such powerful consoles

๐ŸŸก Analysis: in a game like GTA 6, the limit comes mostly from the processor rather than the graphics chip. Every frame has to account for pedestrians, traffic, vehicle physics and, now, a police force that reacts to what witnesses actually saw. Going to 60 fps means calculating all of that twice as often. Lowering the resolution helps the graphics side, not the simulation.

Rockstar has made this call before. Red Dead Redemption 2 ran at 30 fps on PS4 and Xbox One. So did GTA V, on PS3 and on PS4, and it took the 2022 PS5 and Xbox Series release to get a 60 fps mode.

PS5 Pro: what the "Enhanced" label changes

โœ… Confirmed: GTA 6's PlayStation Store listing carries the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. For Sony, this means the developer uses the PS5 Pro's extra power, for smoother performance, better image quality, or both.

๐Ÿ”ด Not detailed: Rockstar has not said what the PS5 Pro brings to GTA 6.

๐ŸŸก Analysis: the PS5 Pro has a much more powerful graphics chip than the PS5, but a very similar processor. The most likely gains are sharpness, image stability and lighting rather than a doubled frame rate. Buying a PS5 Pro just to play GTA 6 at 60 fps would be a gamble. We compare the consoles on our dedicated page.

Xbox Series S: the least documented version

โœ… Confirmed: GTA 6 does release on Xbox Series S, on November 19 like the other versions.

๐Ÿ”ด No official information on its resolution or frame rate.

๐ŸŸก Analysis: the Series S has less memory than the Series X (10 GB versus 16 GB) and a much weaker graphics chip. Expect a lower resolution than on the other consoles. These limits have cost other studios before: Larian had to delay Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox because it could not fit split-screen on the Series S. The Series S is also the most limited on storage, as we work out in our article on GTA 6's file size.

What about PC?

๐Ÿ”ด No PC version announced. GTA 6 releases only on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. PC players who want guaranteed 60 fps will have to wait for a version with no known date or specs. We follow the topic in our GTA 6 PC article.

Setting up your TV for a 30 fps game

A 30 fps game can still feel good if your TV does not add input lag. Turn on Game Mode (or ALLM, which switches it on automatically), and disable motion smoothing, which adds a delay between the controller and the picture. If you are changing screens before launch, our gaming monitor picks cover what matters on console. Everything else is in our GTA 6 launch guide.

FAQ

Will GTA 6 run at 60 fps on PS5?

Not at this stage. Rob Nelson, co-director of the game at Rockstar North, said in late August 2026 that GTA 6 runs at 30 fps on consoles. A 60 fps option is neither confirmed nor ruled out.

Does the PS5 Pro run GTA 6 at 60 fps?

Nothing like that has been announced. The PlayStation Store listing carries the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label, but Rockstar has not said what it brings. Since the PS5 Pro's processor is very close to the PS5's, better image quality is more likely than 60 fps.

Is GTA 6 coming to Xbox Series S?

Yes. GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, on Xbox Series X and Series S. Rockstar has not detailed the resolution or frame rate of the Series S version.

Will GTA 6 have a performance mode?

Rockstar has not decided publicly. Rob Nelson said he would need to consult the technical team to know whether a 60 fps option would be offered at launch or later.

Should you wait for GTA 6 on PC to play at 60 fps?

No PC version has been announced. It is the only platform where 60 fps would be likely, but its release date and system requirements are unknown.

On November 19, plan to play GTA 6 at 30 frames per second, whichever console you own. We will update this article after the first technical analyses of the final versions, and if Rockstar announces a performance mode.
